Join us for a transformative drum-making workshop with drum maker Gordy Bear, where you’ll craft your own 16″ Elk Hide drum using natural materials from plants and animals. This intimate, hands-on experience is more than just creating an instrument—it’s about connecting deeply with the natural world and discovering the songs within your heart.

Ages: 12 and older
Capacity: 20 participants
Cost: $350 per person (Must register and pay in full by 2pm on Sept 20th to be registered and participate) 
What to Bring: Your own lunch, drinks, and snacks (light snacks provided)

During the workshop, you’ll learn the sacred process behind your drum’s creation, from the animal’s life and the respectful hunting practices to the intricate details of processing rawhide and crafting with a yellow cedar ring. Gordy will share stories and songs that will enrich your understanding and connection to the drum, making this a truly meaningful journey.

This is a unique opportunity to not only make a drum with your own hands but also to gain a deeper awareness of the interconnectedness of life and the rhythms that resonate within you.

About Gordy Bear

Gordy Bear, MA Ed, is of mixed Mohawk and Irish heritage and brings a rich tapestry of experience to his work as an artist, drum-maker, singer, storyteller, educator, and filmmaker. With a deep belief in the drum as a powerful tool for self-awareness and connection to the earth, Glenn has led numerous Drum, Rattle, and Shield-Making workshops, guiding participants through transformative personal journeys.

Gordy has been making drums for 18 years, and through multiple mentorships now offers his own drum making to indigenous and non indigenous community. Gordy is Cree/Métis from Sandy Bay Saskatchewan, and leads Spirit Bear Big Drum in the Victoria Community. You can follow the Drum Making journey at Gordy Bear Drum Making on Facebook.

Beyond his workshops, Gordy facilitates cultural ceremonies and leads a men’s warrior program, continuing his lifelong dedication to education, cultural preservation, and personal growth.
