BASKET OF STORIES

Basket of Stories

Join us in the cozy yurt in Duncan for afternoons filled with two unique parts. In the first part, immerse yourself in the art of basket making, weaving real baskets by hand with real plants. No prior skill is required – we’ll guide you through the process.

The second part of these afternoons will be an exploration of the intricacies of community, delving into the tales of old European folklore.

About the Cause: Fifty percent of the funds raised during these afternoons will support Kakisimo Iskwew, an indigenous cultural activist in Alberta rebuilding her home after a fire in Spring 2022.

About the Baskets: The baskets created will be gifted to Quw’utsun Elders during the 3rd Q’ushin’tul Ancestors Walk, from June 29th to July 2nd, 2023.

In a time where the basket of community seems scarce, these afternoons aim to offer a space for exploration. Amidst the divisiveness in broader culture and social media, this gathering acknowledges the challenges without providing easy solutions. We won’t teach you healing circle techniques or steps to hold someone accountable, but we will delve into the complexities of why these actions occur infrequently, despite the collective yearning for change. Expect no quick fixes, just an opportunity for reflection on the cultural challenges of our times.

Join us for an enriching experience that goes beyond ‘how to’s’ to foster deep contemplation on ‘how come.’

For registration and details, see the calendar.
