Forest of Voices: Singing Together for Wellbeing, Learning, and Connection (July 2025)

There is something deeply human about singing together. Beyond performance or perfection, communal singing fosters connection, healing, and a sense of belonging. This summer, Forest of Voices – A Song Circle Gathering invites people of all ages and singing experience to Salt Spring Island for a joyful weekend of shared song and heartfelt community.

Taking place August 30 to September 1 at Paradise Within Farm, Forest of Voices is not a festival or conference. There are no stages, microphones, or audiences—just people gathering in nature to sing together in a co-created space rooted in tradition and care. With 14 different song circles and workshops to choose from, participants are encouraged to explore heart-based songs in a welcoming, substance-free environment.

“Songs are tools we carry in our hearts,” say the organizers. “They’re always with us, no matter what adversity we face.” In a time of widespread uncertainty, adding songs to your life builds emotional resilience and strengthens community ties.

This gathering celebrates the oral tradition of song sharing—where music is learned by listening and joining in. Whether you’re a seasoned singer or just love to hum, Forest of Voices affirms that “singing is our birthright.” All voices, all ages, and all stages of singing are truly welcome. What matters most is not how your voice sounds, but that it is heard.

To support families, child care with experienced nature mentors will be available on-site, giving children space to play and explore while parents participate in singing circles. As the sun sets, the magic continues with late-night song circles under the stars, where voices rise with the night breeze and forest stillness.

The weekend includes four catered meals by Nature’s Chef, Tom Kral, as well as options for tent or car camping. In addition to structured song circles, evening gatherings offer a chance for spontaneous, heartfelt sharing.

Importantly, Forest of Voices is committed to equity and accessibility. The event is offered on a sliding scale, with a range of pricing to support inclusion across economic backgrounds.

Rooted in values of reciprocity, 5% of all profits will be donated to the Stqeeye’ Learning Society—an Indigenous-led non-profit restoring lands and waters at Xwaaqw’um (Burgoyne Bay), a traditional village site of the Quw’utsun Peoples. Optional donations are also welcomed to further support Indigenous land care and cultural revitalization.
